2014, August 18-22: COCARDE session at ISC Geneva

We would like to invite you submitting an abstract to the COCARDE Symposium S12 at the International Sedimentological Congress in Geneva, Switzerland (18-22 August 2014). We welcome all poster and oral presentations within the research field of carbonate mounds through shallow and deep time. The deadline for abstract submission is April 30, 2014.

S12: Carbonate mounds in shallow and deep time - COCARDE
Conveners: Silvia Spezzaferri, Anneleen Foubert (University of Fribourg), Agostina Vertino (University of Milan-Bicocca), Andres Rüggeberg (GEOMAR Kiel) and Jean-Pierre Henriet (Ghent University)

Carbonate mounds are important archives of 'Life' in a wide variety of settings, from cool-water to warm-water, shallow to deep and even extreme environments. They are key-players in the coupled bio-geosphere and form an important piece of the puzzle when studying the global carbonate factory. New breakthroughs in the study of carbonate mounds – especially in cold and extreme conditions – gave already new insights on the processes, mechanisms and patterns in mound development.
This session aims to scrutinize parallelism and contrasts between carbonate mound systems in the present and in the geological record to deepen our insights in their basic drivers and functioning. It frames within the open research network COCARDE fostering carbonate mound research from different perspectives.

The European Science Foundation funds 8 grants for the participation of young scientists to COCARDE-related sessions within the ISC 2014. More information here.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Geneva!
